Monday Night Dinner #9

Monday night is coming up again soon, so I thought I should probably update on last Monday's dinner... In our defense, we are still having technical difficulties with the camera/cord/computer(?...something isn't working)but we are working on it.

Last Monday Night's dinner was so good that we ate every single piece of the entire meal---no leftovers.

Here are the main components on the grill. Tofu, king oyster mushrooms, and Chinese eggplant.

After grilling, I lightly sauteed the eggplant in a chili, garlic, oil, ginger, and soy sauce combo and tossed with fresh homegrown cilantro. I would definitely say it was a successful dish!

I'd never tried king oyster mushrooms, but I was in a huge Asian grocery mart and had the overwhelming desire to buy and eat them. They look like this: (not my photo)

The tofu (r) was basted in a peanut-saucy kind of a thing, and I glazed the king oyster mushrooms with a light citrusy vinaigrettish thing. I cut off the caps and sliced the stalks into 1/4 inche thick slabs. It was an experiment and it turned out well. Really well, if you ask me. Definitely would make these things again.

None of these pictures show how colorful this meal was, but this one comes a little closer. But yeah, it was the perfect amount of food for us four people.

For this Monday, my parents requested salad. Needless to say, I will be making this a grilled salad. I can't wait!

  2. Sorry, I can't type. I said Lotte in Chantilly has a nice mushroom selection.

  3. Haha, that is exactly where I got these! Small world.

They do have a ton of stuff there. I only got these and regular oyster mushrooms when I went, but I wanted to buy everything.

  4. I love king oysters! I'd be eating them all the time, if only they didn't cost 40 euros per kilo here (that's like $30 a pound).

  5. Maija, I love them too. They're super expensive in the average grocery store here as well, but in the Asian supermarkets there's so much cheap, awesome produce! Do you have anything like that where you live?
